About Me
I have a Master's Degree in Special Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and an Educational Specialist Degree in Integrating Technology in Education. I have been in the field of Education for nearly 27 years. Fifteen of those years, I have worked specifically with students who are dyslexic or otherwise non-neurotypical. I have always had an affinity for working with students who struggle to learn in a traditional school environment. Nine years ago, I became especially motivated to research all I could about Dyslexia and eventually sought out specialized training in an Orton-Gillingham based method of teaching reading after my son was diagnosed as being severely dyslexic. I became a Certified Academic Language Practitioner through the Shelton School Outreach Program in Dallas, TX. I am a Certified Dyslexia Practitioner through IDA (International Dyslexia Association).
Since that time, I have focused on tutoring one-on-one; predominantly with students who have been diagnosed or who exhibit characteristics of dyslexia.
I find working with these bright and creative children and teens to be very rewarding. I am continually seeking out new and better strategies beyond my original ALTA-certified training to incorporate into helping teach my students to be more independent and confident in their reading, writing and spelling skills.
in my spare time, I play viola and violin in several non-professional chamber groups in town, enjoy travel, bicycling and knitting.

Methods/Programs
I am formally trained in the SEE (Sequential English Education) Program. I also have informal training using the Barton Method. Both of these methods are Orton-Gillingham based, which research shows is critical for remediating the language challenges dyslexics, as well as those with other reading difficulties face.
I am also currently working with the Multisensory Reading Center in Dallas as a teletherapist with Lexercise, which provides ONLINE Orton-Gillingham based tutoring. See below for further information on LEXERCISE.
